How to choose shin guards
Compare measurements, fit, instep coverage and intended use for kickboxing and Muay Thai.
1. Start with your sport
Ask which protection your class uses. Stand-up training and grappling have different requirements. Check the manufacturer’s intended use and club rules.
2. Use the model’s size chart
Take the measurements requested by the manufacturer. Do not assume the same letter size fits across brands. If between sizes, ask our team with the exact model and your measurements.
3. Check coverage
Check the position of the shin and instep protection while moving your ankle and knee. Proportions and shapes vary between models.
4. Test the fit
Adjust straps according to the instructions and make controlled movements. The guards should stay in place. Choose children’s equipment for their current measurements and ask their coach to confirm.
5. Sets or separate items
A set may include gloves and shin guards, but contents vary. Check each item’s size and the accessories included. Glove weight does not determine shin guard size.
